Really need some legal advice, anyone know of a good lawyer that can help?

Main Post:

So this is kind of a long story but I really need some legal advice. Let's start with the background. My ex-husband and owned a business back in 2016, (he still owns it, I took my name off). He had a lot of back 941 taxes that he owed and since my name was on the business I'm getting notices still and and just got a final notice to levy for around $4500. Note, over the years the IRS has already taken every tax return of mine totaling around $10,000 after we got divorced and I was filing on my own. (he owed a lot). I made sure to put in our property settlement agreement that all debt that was under the LLC was his sole responsibility and not mine. Now, he still has not bought me out of the house which he was court ordered to do by June of last year. He is now in contempt. If I went to Chesterfield county court house and filed a motion for contempt (not that I would even know where to begin), could I bring up the tax related stuff too? This was never my debt and he agreed to that. I'm just tired of getting screwed on this. I really don't want them to garnish my wages or take my car. I've tried talking to him but all I've been getting is lip service, he says he working on negotiations with his cpa (which he's been saying for years, we divorced in 2020). I don't know where to begin. Do I need a lawyer or is this something I can take on my own. Like I said, I don't even know where to start. Any advice is appreciated.

Legal advice

Top Comment: OK. You might want to provide a few more details. Since you didn't provide details, my advice is to not talk to the police without your attorney. Have a good day.

Need help with legal advice! đź©·

Need help and legal advice, which direction I should go and what to do

This is gonna be a lot, fair warning even my TLDR might be a decent paragraph. But I really need some advice to even begin. This will be one post out of two because I also have another issue I’m dealing with.

To begin with history and context, I lived at an apartment complex from November 2021 to May 2024. In that time I moved rooms quiteeeee a few times. I believe I moved 5 times. For context you get 3 random roommates and things don’t always work out or work out for long. Had quite a few issues there. It’s like a town house with two stories (4 bedrooms 2 bathrooms.) Because of these moves I signed a brand new lease every time I changed rooms. (this is important 🩷)

Only some details about the roomate situations are relevant but I don’t mind sharing juicy gossip tea: (I don’t believe I was ever a huge problem but I had problems with other people’s behavior which turned mutual most times, ended relationships and moved, moved in with a life long best friend and she turned out to be actually evil and manipulative, and even had some girls almost get the apartment shot up while they starved and neglected pregnant cats.)

10/28/21 I signed my inital lease to move in. Here’s the tricky part, I paid digitally with an ex partner and can’t find the receipt for it hence the advice I need. I mean, the landlady has to have record of it right? I’m 99% sure I paid $725 to move in that was my share, because I remember us planning this together and the total was around $1400 to move there. I paid from the town I lived in so it was completely online, no money order. I’ll post the lease and you can see the total is $725 for all of the charges.

For more context, I was only ever late on rent once and immediately paid it all back, I was going through a really rough time after a 3 year relationship ending and had to get my shit together and was rebounding during this. There was a 39$ left over balance but I repaid this before my lease ended. Then, twice after that I paid my lease in advance by around $1300 then $1700.

Every single time I left each bedroom, I made sure it was spotless, clear of all items and garbage and anything I had in the shared spaces. I never had any major damages, even with two cats who are really well behaved. This is also evident because there’d be record if I had destroyed anything and this landlady has nothing on me because..I was good to the property! I even had renters insurance for most of my stay. When I left, I stood at reception and cleared my balances. I made sure every last penny was paid. I even made sure to ask and get digital verification (adding that to the images I’ll share) that I had paid off everything. This excluded the last months water bill I completely forgot about that hadn’t been sent yet, this is important. So with that, I thought I had completely paid everything and was even told I was in the green.

For the record I completely forgot about any deposits I paid, as this was the first apartment I’ve ever rented at. I’m young!! In the initial lease, you’ll see that I paid an $80 refundable cleaning fee, that states I’m to be refunded if the room was clear of all tenant owned items and trash, which I did. Now, she’s trying to charge me a $25 and some change for a “carpet cleaning fee” and saying she doesn’t owe me a deposit as I never paid one. I think she’s trying to claim I got a promotion but I’m 99% sure I did not??? The thing is, I’m also pregnant so my brain just lost like 4% of its working power so shit is a bit hazy. But I’m literally just trying to get to the bottom of this because I will pay what’s owed if it’s morally and legally correct, but if it’s not, well!!!! It doesn’t say the security deposit is refundable but does that just go without saying?

I don’t wish to share what state I’m in, but apparently the landlord has 30 days to repay deposits or else it’s doubled, and she’s telling me I had 7 days to dispute the charges and the time has passed. She’s trying to say I owe 39$ in back rent, 25$ for a cleaning fee, and of course I do owe my last water bill.

Important details include how many times I’ve moved and how many leases I’ve signed. Because my final move out statement isn’t even showing accurate dates. But then the landlady says oh you owe 39$ much on a random room I lived in the middle of my lease which I paid already? Very confusion. You’d think she wouldn’t let me leave ya know!

None of what they are sending me include a full length of lease history. Not to mention this landlady is pretty scummy otherwise. When the girls who neglected their cats and destroyed our apartment left, they left a huge mess so I emailed and took pictures of it. When I moved out and came in to get new keys to my new room she started flipping out on me because I brought up how it was trashed but I cleaned a lot of it up. It took me telling her to check her email to stop screaming at me, she calmed down when she realised she was wrong. I’m not the only person who’s had issues with her, she seems to hate her job.

TLDR: My landlord is saying I owe money that I don’t think I owe, I wasn’t given my refunded deposit, (basically I’d have paid in total 105$ for cleaning fees in which I did achieve what the lease asked because the additional 25$ was not part of the lease and the original 80$ was never refunded) and I have a digital copy saying my balance was clean and clear when I left. I don’t know what to do going forward, who I should go to involve in this legally. I don’t know if they just don’t realise they owe me because they aren’t looking at the full length of my lease signing history. In total they’d owe me 480$ I believe according to my state laws.

To be perfectly honest, I would pay the balance and final water bill. More important to have a good history than to try to legally fight this from several months ago.

In the future, always do a videoed walk through WITH and without your landlord at move out.

Veteran in need of legal help

Main Post:

I am trying to help out a friend of mine in Lawton OK. She is in need of a lawyer that deals with veterans. She went through a PTSD event in her home. She called 911 for help and they instead arrested her and are now keeping her in the jail without her meds or ability to go to pyschiatrist. She is just trying to get help and they are treating her like a criminal. Does anyone know or have any advice on how to get her legal help to get her out of there and into in patient care?

Top Comment:

OK has alternate court systems for mental, substance use, and veterans. Here's a link I found. It might be worth a try, if nothing else, you might find a path to help your friend.

Do I need legal backups for selling things in game?

Main Post:

I made a mobile game and was thinking about adding some in-game items that can be purchased with real money. Can I just do this or do I need to do some legal stuff first? Like to get the player to accept the terms of use. Can I use some pre-made agreement I found online?

Top Comment:

Well, for starters you need a business in order to do... business. Rules and laws may apply. Like depending on distribution platforms (some take cuts, you need to label your game as having in-app purchases). Then there is your (business's) country which is important and the countries you are selling these goods in why might have laws or regulations.

You going to need terms of use, people to be able to know what they are buying or not. You can't just take anything random online from someone else, but there sure are a bunch of (open source) legal templates for these things you can use.

I need uk legal advice needed asap

Main Post:

I posted someone on social media about how they treated me during pregnancy and after pregnancy, they claim it ain’t true and said they going to court about it I did delete the post, can I be prosecuted for that? I did delete the post but apparently people have screenshots.

Top Comment:

In theory, yes they could sue you however; In order for them to sue you for defamation they'd need to prove your comments where stated as fact rather than framed as your own opinion, factually incorrect and caused them some actual financial loss.

My friend was in a head on collision. Need legal advice

Main Post:

My friend (represented by blue) was exiting his road about a week ago. A Ute (represented by yellow) screamed through his intersection and smashed right into the front of him, cutting the corner on the intersection. Car is now gone, unusable, written off. The guy said he had insurance for the crash and throughout the past week my friend has been hounding him for the claim number. Now the guy has stopped replying after he said specifically he would send the claim number through from his wife.

Is there anything he can do/say to this guy to get him to get his thumb out of his ass? I’ve said to him to say “my lawyer wants the claim number” or something like that. But I am not a professional so I want to know what he can say that actually has some ground to stand on. Please help. My friend doesn’t have a car anymore. He needs his car just like all of us.

Thank you to anyone that responds :)

Why isn’t your friend’s insurance company sorting this out? Edited to add it was reported to the police at the time too, right?

Do I need to open a legal company for a store on Etsy?

Main Post:

What is the regulation with Belastingdienst regarding selling items on Etsy (I plan to open a print-on-demand store online)?

I've scoured the Belastingdienst website for the answer but found vast amounts of related, but not specific information (not a direct answer).

I'm assuming that there's a revenue limit —"Earning A to B you don't need a company, and from X to Y you do," but what are the exact rules & what is the best practice for an online "business"?

Top Comment: Under 2200 euro gross sales in a year you don’t need to register. You just declare the profit in your tax return as income from other work. After that amount, you should register at the Kvk. In theory you should really register if you are planning to sell for profit anything. So if you’re serious you might as well register. But if you want to just see how it goes first then you can - Etsy is not that easy to do well on, highly saturated with print on demand

Need Guidance on Legal Requirements for Android Apps

Main Post:

Hi everyone,

I’m an independent Android developer with several apps published on the Google Play Store. My apps are simple and only display AdMob ads; they don’t collect, store, or process any user data beyond what AdMob might handle.

Recently, I’ve been concerned about the legal side of things, especially since I’m based in Europe and need to comply with GDPR. I want to make sure my apps are completely legal, but the process feels overwhelming for a small developer like me. Here’s what I’ve done and what I’m unsure about:

1. GDPR Consent: I understand that in Europe, I need to display a consent dialog for AdMob ads. How exactly should this be implemented to be compliant? 2. Privacy Policy: I know I need one, but what should it include if my apps don’t collect data directly (only AdMob does)?

3. Play Store Data Safety Section: I’m confused about what to declare here since AdMob handles the data. If I use mediation and other ad networks in the future, would I need to update this and my privacy policy? 4. Privacy Policy Link in the App: Should I also include a link to my privacy policy within the app itself? I’ve noticed many apps don’t seem to do this. Is it required? 5. Google’s Role in Compliance: If Google approves my app for publication, does that mean my app is fully legal and compliant, or is compliance entirely on me regardless of Google’s approval?

What I also find confusing is whether most developers actually follow these legal requirements. There are so many apps out there, and it seems like not everyone is doing this. Do developers often skip these steps, or is this something Google and regulatory bodies take very seriously?

I want to ensure everything is legal and avoid any future issues, but I feel lost with all the regulations. If anyone can share clear steps or resources (especially for small developers like me), I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks for your help!

Top Comment: I am on the same page as you, but please DO NOT take this as professional legal advice. I recommend visiting this page to learn how to integrate Google AdMob's User Messaging Platform (UMP) SDK into your app. Here's the link: Get started | Android | Google for Developers . Just follow the steps in the video, and you should be good to go. Your privacy policy must explicitly state that you have implemented third-party services, such as Google AdMob, into your app. You must also state the purpose of doing so, the data that might be collected, and how users can control or opt out of sharing their data. Many indie developers use online privacy policy generators (some aren't free), but I do not recommend this approach as the generated privacy policies may not align with your business. You may need to consult an attorney to help draft your privacy policy. You may need to research and understand how AdMob collects user data. These may include advertising ID, IP address, approximate location, and cookies. If you plan to use mediation in the future, you will need to update this section and your privacy policy. Yes, including a link to your privacy policy in the app is a must. Make it easily findable and accessible in your app. Google cannot guarantee that approved apps are fully compliant. You're responsible for the app you've developed. To be safe, consult a legal professional to ensure your apps are legally compliant. What I also find confusing is whether most developers actually follow these legal requirements. There are so many apps out there, and it seems like not everyone is doing this. Do developers often skip these steps, or is this something Google and regulatory bodies take very seriously? Legal compliance should be taken seriously. Again, a friendly disclaimer: This comment SHOULD NOT be taken as professional legal advice. I strongly recommend consulting an attorney to stay fully compliant with relevant regulations.

What do I need to be legal, it’s been about 8 years

Main Post:

As the title says, it’s been closer to a decade since I actually flew and the kid that sidelined me is finally old enough to share. I got my federally mandated number a few years ago but it sounds like I need to take more steps to be legal now. Is there a simple rundown of the steps i need to take?

Top Comment:

You basically need 2 to 3 things.

You need to get a small UAS certificate of registration to fly from the FAA. This is very easily done on the website.

You will need to take and pass the “TRUST” test and receive the certification ( I believe this costs like $5 for 5 year cert)

In addition to this you will need to get an app or find a way to determine where within “class G” airspace you can fly. Alternatively you can join an AMA sanctioned field which I recommend to everyone. The ability to fly is much greater, many resources, and there are built in protections if anything unforeseen happens while flying.
